One target. A closing weather window. And a Kingfisher 510 Powercat ready to go.
Frank, Brock, and Sam launched out of Whakatane with a single goal: find the yellowfin tuna on top water before the afternoon wind arrived and shut things down.
Watch how it unfolded:
Yellowfin tuna on top water is some of the most exciting fishing New Zealand has to offer — explosive surface strikes, screaming drags, and fish that fight like nothing else. But with a nasty wind forecast building through the afternoon, the crew had to move fast, locate the fish, and get them on ice before conditions turned.
The Kingfisher 510 Powercat handled the pressure like a champion. Its efficient twin-hull design got the crew out to the grounds quickly, and its rock-solid stability gave them the platform they needed to work the surface action effectively.
The result was an absolute cracker of a day — a yellowfin for every man on board.
The Setup:
- Boat: Kingfisher 510 Centre Console Powercat
- Engine: Honda BF135
- Electronics: Humminbird & Minn Kota Trolling Motor
