Great Barrier Island is not a casual destination. A 160km-plus round trip across the Hauraki Gulf, shifting conditions, and demanding fishing once you arrive — it’s the kind of mission that separates capable boats from great ones.
Sam, Brock, and Braden loaded up the Kingfisher 510 Powercat and pointed the bow at Great Barrier, chasing snapper and kingfish across one of New Zealand’s most iconic stretches of water.
Watch the full mission here:
The plan was kingfish and big snapper. The kingfish showed up but wouldn’t bite — so the crew adapted, working the shallows with soft baits and finding the snapper in fine form. That’s Great Barrier fishing: you go prepared, you stay flexible, and you take what the day gives you.
The Kingfisher 510 Powercat proved its credentials as a serious offshore tool — handling the long run, the sea conditions, and giving the team a stable, fishable platform from start to finish.
The Setup:
- Boat: Kingfisher 510 Centre Console Powercat
- Engine: Honda BF135
- Electronics: Minn Kota Instinct Quest bow motor, Humminbird Apex & Xplore
