KINGFISHER HOME   Advantages of Alloy

Boat hulls can be made from various materials such as aluminium and fibreglass. Aluminium boat hulls have a few advantages when compared to the other types. Some of these advantages include weight, speed

WEIGHT

One of the first advantages of aluminium boat hulls is their weight. The weight of the hull is a major issue for smaller boats. Aluminium boat hulls have a considerably higher strength to weight ratio than other construction methods. Therefore, these hulls can be made as strong as other methods but weigh considerably less. This will also allow you to carry heavier cargo on the boat.

    SPEED & EFFICIENCY

Another advantage of aluminium boat hulls deals with speed. Since these hulls are lighter, they will allow the boat to have more speed. If it is driven by a motor, you will use less fuel if you use aluminium boat hulls.

EASIER TO MANUFACTURE & CUSTOMISE

One of the next advantages of aluminium boat hulls is that they're easier to make. Aluminium is fast to weld. Fibreglass can't even be welded, so the boat hull will have to be created from a mold. Aluminium is also very easy to shape, so aluminium boat hulls can have more detailing than other types.

REPAIR

Aluminium boat hulls are also very easy to repair if they become damaged. If you dent the hull of your boat, you can usually pound it out with a hammer. If this won't work, the area can be cut out with a saw and replaced easily. Other types of boat hulls aren't as easy to repair, especially fibreglass which is costly to repair.

DURABILITY

One of the final advantages of aluminium boat hulls is their durability. Fibreglass hulls are very brittle and will easily break or hole if they sustain an impact. Aluminium boat hulls will stand up to impacts much better than fibreglass varieties, and will normally dent instead of hole.

IMPACT

If the boat strikes an object, whether it be a rock, mooring or another boat, the likelihood of it taking on water is very low as alloy tends to crumple rather than shatter or crack.
